Oh and that table isn’t really flawed, just is missing a very important variable. And that variable is the money the user currently has, which cannot be inputted into a table. So if there was,for the sake of example, infinite money in the game, then yes that table WOULD be very much so correct. In fact, it is, just…only in that circumstance.

The one thing this list doesn’t take into account is the turnover you can have in clownfish compared to all other fish on the chart (this is similar to dividend reinvestments in stocks).
For example at level 29-32 the porcupine puffer is the most most profitable fish, but for the 530 coins and 42 hour investment it would take to raise one pair to lay eggs, I can buy 33 clownfish and sell them (technically 7 times, but i am counting for 16 hours of sleep and being off the game) 4-5 times gaining a profit of 66 coins each 6 hours. So a total profit of 264 (if you do this 4 times) to a potential of 462 coins if you did it 7 times. (not to mention any extra profit from laying eggs and selling the offspring when they grow up).
Clownfish are by far the most important fish to the game (not to mention how quickly they allow you to earn the achievement awards).

I was double checking some numbers, and I am afraid that the ratio profit/hours is slightly mistaken. When you divide your profit, for example, seeling the powder blue tang, which is 98 and divide by the growing hours, 16, you get a ratio of 6.125.
If is right or am I seeing this mistakenly?

new available fish at lvl 48?o.O i know only person who can buy that.. is there a chance you include its stats at the board?just curious
08 Jan 2010, 8:59 am
Dear Sean,
This list is just odds and ends, facts and stats. This is just a little aid to any smart person who doesn’t want to take the time. Of course it won’t take any of that into account :P. The players should take that into account themselves :P. And profit wise a clownfish is only good until you can afford a full tank of Blue Tang, then once you can get a full tank of Blue Tang, you should move on gradually once your average increases.
What you’re not taking into account is that sure with the clownfish you can get for the sake of example 264 for 33 fish in 24 hours, but let’s find out how much you’d make in 42 hours(puffer fish time). Well if a clownfish gives 0.33 per hour, multiply 0.33 times 33(profit of 33 every hour) and you’ll get 10.89, then multiply THAT by the amount of hours it takes to grow a puffer fish. 10.89 profit per hour times 42 hours, and you’ll get 457.38. Compare that profit to the profit of 33 puffer fish and you’ll find 1254 with much less managing and caretaking beats 457.38 anyday.
So IF you can afford the most profitable fish with the highest unit rate, I recommend ignoring clownfish. But if you want experience, the rotating cycle of buying clownfish and selling clownfish and feeding the new hungry chickedees makes for awesome experience :).
Dear Iris,
You divided time/selling price. You don’t want to know how much your selling price increases per hour do you? Lol no you don’t :P. You want to know how much your profit is increasing every hour. Change in y over change in x, input divided by output, etc etc :P.
In general, I might be wrong…I’m a middle school student. But you can trust that I’ve made lots of money in short amounts of time with these methods. Right now I’m making 7000 profit every 32 hours :P. 60000 total every 32 :P..Not bad figures for 3 and 1/4 tanks and lvl 32 :). Plus I could have TOTALLY misconstrued seans message, the structure of the sentences were a little jumpy, sorry :(…
08 Jan 2010, 9:06 am
Oh oops I meant to say by the end of my next “cycle” I’ll have 60,000 coins total.

Did any of you consider mating for max profit?
I tried to make a good plan for buying, mating and selling fish for max profit.
Mating means buying a new fish but at only 60% costs and losing 50% of sell profit due to 50% longer growup.
Good plans can be very complex but a simple model I made is:
x = time to grow up
at point 0 in time line buy e.g. 3 fish (let’s call them 2a + 1a(the 1a is only a filler)
at 0.5x buy another 3 fish (called 2b + 1b)
at 1x 2a and 1a are adults. sell 1a; mate 2a to get (egg 1c); sell 2a and buy 2 new fish (2c)
at 1,5x 1c hadges; 2b and 1b are adults; sell 1b; mate 2b getting 1d; sell 2b; buy 2e
at 2x 2c are adults, there is no space left to mate, so sell them and buy 2f; 1d hadges
at 2.5x 1c is an adult, sell it; 2e are adult, mate -> 1g, sell, buy 2h
and so on.
it sounds confusing but on a picture it’s quite simple
that way you can make more than 25% more profit than with resellig only
with complexer strategies you can even make more money, losing some xp (cant feed eggs)

27 Jan 2010, 1:43 am
Ok, thanks for answer me (and update…).
And one special question. I am doing specially table in Exel and I need function to PROFIT/HOUR. Do someone know what I mean?
27 Jan 2010, 1:26 pm
FLOWAR: the formula is simple. you just have to take the profit earned by the fish and divide that by the number of hours taken to grow that fish into adult
for example, if wer consider the clownfish. which is purchased at 16 and sold at 18 and takes time to grow to adult is 8
so by selling this adult clownfish you are earning a profit of 2coins
so divide 2 by 8 hours
this will give you the profit per hours..
27 Jan 2010, 6:05 pm
Hey in level 32, most profitable one is Pink Mandarin, not Porcupine Puffer
28 Jan 2010, 5:19 pm
Hi Adem Can,
We have updated the list. Thank you
29 Jan 2010, 10:13 am
Return on Investment (ROI) = Profit/Cost of the Fish
ROI per Hour = ROI/Hour to grow a fish
I think, the best criteria is the ROI per hour, not the profit per hour…
we should take into account also the cost of buying the fish…
my analysis is just the same of those who conducts their business, taking into account the cost not just profit…
Here’s the analysis based in the ROI per hour. Clownfish tops the list
FishName ROI/Hr
Clownfish 0.04167
Auriga Butterfly 0.03571
Flameback Angel 0.03158
Cowfish * 0.02451
Cardina Fish * 0.02381

Pink Mandarin 0.00618

29 Jan 2010, 10:49 am
Example: For instance, you are in level 37. We will compare which is the better fish to buy in order to amazed more profit… is it Powder Blue Tang or Fox Fish will be more beneficial for us?
Profit/Hour criteria: Powder Blue Tang is the highest ratio, however, per
ROI/Hour criteria: Fox Face is higher than Powder Blue Tang
Lets have a concrete example: You have 824 coins left and thinking how can we maximize the said coins after 32 hours, which is both the hours needed for Fox Face and Powder Blue Tang to adulthood.
Scenario 1: Buy a Powder Blue Tang
Coins before purhase = 824
Coins left after purchase (824-819) = 5
Cost = 819
Profit after 32 hours = 98
Total coins after 32 hours (5+819+98) = 922
Scenario 2: Buy 2 Fox Face (412 each)
Coins before purhase = 824
Coins left after purchase (824-824) = 0
Cost = 824
Profit after 32 hours (54 x 2 fish) = 108
Total coins after 32 hours (0+824+108) = 932
Now, based on the two scenario given, ROI/Hour ratio maximize better our coins than Profit/Hour ratio =)
29 Jan 2010, 11:43 am
If the above example doesn’t satisfy you yet… then, here’s another example:
For instance, you are in level 1 to 22 wherein Cardina fish is the highest in terms of Profit/Hour.
We will compare which is the better fish to buy in order to maximize more profit… is it Cardina Fish or Cow Fish?
Profit/Hour criteria: Cardina fish is the highest ratio, however, per
ROI/Hour criteria: Cowfish is higher than Cardina fish
Lets have a concrete example: You have 1,666 coins left and thinking how can we maximize the said coins after 12 hours, which is both the hours needed for Cardina Fish and Cowfish to adulthood.
Scenario 1: Buy 34 Cardina Fish
Coins before purhase = 1,666
Cost (49 x 34 fish) = 1,666
Profit after 12 hours (34 fish x 7 profit per fish) = 238
Total coins after 12 hours (1,666+238) = 1,904
Scenario 2: Buy 49 Cowfish
Coins before purhase = 1,666
Cost (34 x 49 fish) = 1,666
Profit after 12 hours (49 fish x 5 profit per fish) = 245
Total coins after 12 hours (1,666 + 245) = 1,911
Conclusion: Buying cowfish (1,911 coins after 12 hours) will give us more profit than buying cardina fish (1,904 coins after 12 hours).
Based on the two scenario given, ROI/Hour ratio maximize better our coins than Profit/Hour ratio =)

The list is a bit incorrect, how much you get for selling a fish depends on his traininglevel. You get a bonus of +1 for level 1-6 and +2 for level 7. In the list most fishes were sold at level 1-6 but some at 0. You might say this has only little impact, but..
@Hector: Your Cowfish Cardinal comparison suffers from the above problem. Compare the fishes with just level 0 and you will get 4 profit for a cowfish and 7 for a cardinal. Do the maths again and – surprise surprise – the cardinal wins.
@all: Do not forget space as an important variable. When you go for achivements may be better to use lower profit fishes that grow fast. If you go for money it will most probably at some stage be better to use more expensive fishes, even if they give you not the most profit per fish, but they do in sum when you count in the limited slots you have. If anyone is really bored, code a program that takes space, level and money as input and then do smart things (or brute force it).
Nevertheless this list is very nice to get an orientation.

The only thing wrong with this chart, is that they didnt take into account how much food they would consume.

clownfish are also beneficial cuz theyre cheaper, so you can have more and get more XP points for feeding them.

thanks I have been using this formula since before seeing this but it is great little table for folks at lower levels to aspire up with! Now if we can just unlock the pearl items so they can be bought with coins! Then the game will get interesting for all players not just the ones who spend money to get ahead (nothing wrong with that – just a different way of “playing”).

We will add new fishes stat to the list very soon, stay tuned :)

So the kissing fish sells for 139 (125 bought) for a profit of 14 in just 6 hours. So P/h = 2.333
For under level 35, the kissing fish is the most profitable.
