Fish Mating Experiment
Mating the fish VS buy new fish, which will bring more profit?
In this experiment, we are mating 10 pairs of Cubicus Boxfish and show you the result so you could make your own decision for buying a new fish or mate the fish.

We successful made 7 fish eggs with 10 pairs Cubicus Boxfish (70% successful rate), for each mating will cost about 75 coins so total is 750 coins. The Cubicus Boxfish eggs have 17 hours of hatching time, each type of fish will have different hatching time, for more fish mating info please click here.
There is a faster way to get 7 new Cubicus Boxfish where you have to buy using 1050 coins. This will cost you extra 300 coins compare with mating method because this would be less time consuming.
We will prefer you to choose mating your fish because the fish egg is very easy to take care and do not need any feedings while waiting for the eggs to hatch. Thus, you only have to wait for the egg hatching time to ends.
Are you willing to wait for the egg hatching or paying extra coins? The choice is yours :)
Happy Aquarium also added a new Catshark fish and Growth vitamins.

Catshark – Cost 2625 coins and 80 hours growing times.

Growth Vitamins – Instantly grow 24 hours.

Mating doesn’t pay off as much as buying and selling afterwards. I made a simple experiment with FOXFACEs. We know that a baby fish costs 412, an adult can be sold for 466 (profit of 54), and mating costs 206.
In this experiment I had 26 fish – 13 pairs. After mating, I sold the 2 fish that I mated regardless what the outcome was, egg or no egg. I managed to get 8 pairs to lay an egg, the other 5 failed (62,5%) in 100% condition – full food and cleanliness bar.
To sum up the mating costs:
13×206=2678
Out of which I made profit with the eggs:
8×466=3728
Which makes a total of:
3728-2678=1050 profit.
###
On the other hand I have sold all 26 fish participants, which is:
26×54=1404
As you see, I made significantly more profit with simply buying fish and selling them afterwards, with no extra time wasting to wait for the eggs to hatch.
However, if the mating result was 80% successful, which should be the case, since the game claims so, I would make more money thus way. Basically if your percentage at least 50, you are still making profit. If you don’t mind the waiting, then you should combine both ways like I did, which brought me:
1050+1404=2454 coins in total.
Good luck, my dear fellow aquarists.

Actually, mathematically, you get the highest “Return on Investment” by also mating, but you get the highers “Individual Rate of Return” by not mating.
cost to buy 2 mate cost revenue from the fish that were bought revenue from the fish that was an edd (80% * 18) total revenue total amount spent Return on investment (revenue/cost) Individual Rate of Return (ROI/time)
Mating 32 8 36 8 44 40 0.909090909 0.1125
No mating 32 0 36 0 36 32 0.888888889 0.148148148
As you can see, the Return on Investment (ROI) for mating is .9 when compared to the .88 for not mating. But since you have to add 2 more hours to the fish that came from the egg, the IRR is lower for for mating than not.
